My Northwest Kids

After lunch today, my children clamored to put on their shoes, opened the sliding glass door, and tumbled outside. The sun was gracing us with it's warm rays and they've learned young that's not something to be taken for granted around here.
My phone said it was 47 degrees, but it felt warmer (the "real feel" temperature read 54...who comes up with that real feel number anyways?)  All three kids were dressed in weather appropriate clothes, but within moments, Little Man and Kiwi raced upstairs and reappeared in new outfits.  They had decided to play "beach" and even dug out their flip flops and water shoes from the bottom of the shoe bin.
You should have seen them earlier in the week.  The thermometer teetered on sixty degrees and the kids begged me to put on their swim suits.  They were incredulous when I refused.  "Mommy, it's hot enough!  Mommy, we're SWEATING!"

This little guy can't undress himself yet, so he stayed in his original clothes.
When the "sunbreak" was done, the kids threw the toys they had brought outside into the house, but ran around for a few more minutes enjoying the rain and hail.  We are definitely raising some Norhwestern kids around here.

(This picture was taken last week when Little Man insisted on practicing his soccer in the rain).

  1. My kids are the same way- after weeks of nothing but cold and rain, if there is just a hint of sun, my kids say it's hot and ask "Mom, is it summer?" "No kids, it's only 45 degrees!" What a difference a little sun can make. And if there is just a little sun, my kids are the same and think they do not need even a jacket, and race to find shorts, flip flops and, yes, same as yours, have even begged to put on their swim suits and run through the sprinklers. Bless their hearts for feeling 80 degrees on a sunny 45 degree day! :) Now that's looking on the bright side. Love the picture of your kids in their "summer" clothes.
