I'm sure many you are familiar with P.D. Eastman's Go Dog Go. It's one of those beginning reader books with lots of short sentences and repetitive phrases. At one point in their lives, both of my children have had a brief obsession with this book. In fact, I have a really cute video of Kiwi "reading" it herself which maybe someday I will figure out how to get onto my computer and post (I know it's not that hard, I've just got to do it).
Anyways, there is a page in the book after the dogs have had a long day of play, that they retire for the night. The words on this page read as follows:
"Now it is night. Night is not a time for play. It is time for sleep. The dogs go to sleep. They will sleep all night."
I remember reading this book to Little Man one day when Kiwi was just a newborn. In my sleep deprived state, I recall actually longingly staring at these dogs sleeping peacefully in their bed and wishing I could join them (or better yet just sleep in my own bed). The words, "They will sleep all night" seemed to be taunting me.
Of course the day came when Kiwi did sleep through the night and I was again waking rested and thinking straight (for the most part). Actually, Mike and I have enjoyed a nice stretch of good sleep. Guess it must be time to shake things up a little.
Because come summer time (July 31ish) we've got another long stretch of sleep interrupted nights coming our way.
And we couldn't be happier about it
