Baby No More

For the past several months, Mason has been sporting what we affectionately call his "wings."  His soft wispy, almost white baby hair has grown in the longest out over his ears.  When left on their own, these hairs curl upwards creating the look of, well, little wings.  I think they are adorable and have been resisting Mike's suggestion of getting them cut for weeks.

His wings at their best Christmas day while watching Uncle Mike fly his helicopter.  That white tuft behind his left ear that looks like it's part of the couch...all hair.

This weekend, however, the realization hit me that it has been a while since a stranger commented on his cute hair wispies or since the lady at Costco called him, "the one winged angel" (one side was particularly prominent that day).  And that my dad's question of, "Have you got Mason's haircut yet?" on Saturday may have been a kind hint that we needed to.  I was forced to realize that he was starting to look like the kid whose parents are too lazy to cut his hair.  So when Little Man got his haircut yesterday, Mason got a turn in the chair also.  Except for the moment he touched the chair he started to scream.   I picked him up and my friend who was doing the hair cutting went to put on the cute little kids cover on him and he screamed again.  In the end, I held him alternating which hip he rested on depending on what side she needed to cut, while she did her thing.

The result?  My baby is gone and in his place is an equally adorable, but much older looking toddler.  His eighteen month mark is Friday, but with this new do, he looks like he's pushing twenty two months at least.
Loses some baby hair and suddenly the kid's reading.

We sure love our handsome guy, wings or not.

  2. He looks so handsome! I don't think it makes him look more grown up at all.
