365 Days

July 27, 2010

Several inches, about twelve pounds (we haven't been to his one year check up yet to get the exact stats), seven teeth, many milestones, and three hundred sixty five days later and look what we have.

A baby on the brink of toddlerhood.    Mason is starting to take steps, is finding ways to let his opinion be known, says mama and dada, and makes vroom vroom noises with cars.  His favorite thing in the world is probably the little yellow and blue Little Tykes slide in our backyard which he would climb up and slide down all day long if he could.  He attacks the four rung ladder with tenacity and a determined look.  In his eagerness to reach the top, he often will attempt to skip the last rung which results in him performing the baby splits while balancing percariously on the toy.  When he reaches the top, he gets himself into the sitting position, and slides down.  And every time he reaches the bottom, the most triumphant, excited smile fills his face and then the process begins again.
Any guesses to where I spend the majority of my backyard time these days?

A year changes everything, except of course for the things that it doesn't.   Like how in love we still are with this little boy, the sweet spirit that he brings into our home, and how very blessed we feel to have him here.

I love celebrating every birthday of my children's, but to me there is something special about the first one.  Maybe it's because you made it through that first year of waking up at night, teething, nursing, explosive diaper changing, and just figuring out your baby.  Maybe it's because it's the first one.  Whatever it is, first birthdays make we want to celebrate and so we celebrated.

We had our families over for a Teddy Bear picnic bbq.  Kiwi arranged these to welcome guests at the front door.

Little Man put together this little group in the kitchen.

They both worked hard on this poster for their baby brother.

My baby and I.

He was very serious about his cake.  It took him a long time to get into it.  Eventually he realized that there was something tasty on his tray, but he never went crazy with it.  He just ate it very methodically and seriously, which cracked us up.

Happy 1st Birthday to our sweet baby boy!
