Six Years Old

Six years ago (last week) we brought home our firstborn from the hospital.  The night we came home, my cousins and some friends of ours came to meet our precious new addition.  He slept through it all and when they left at 11:00, we commented on the fact that the evening hadn't seemed that much different from pre-baby life (except for I was exhausted and recovering from child birth).  We got ready for bed and pulled out a pair of fleece 0-3 month yellow ducky p.j.'s that had been sitting washed and folded for weeks waiting for the little guy.  We put him in them and then gently laid him in the cradle that had been made for Mike by his dad when he was a newborn.  We stared in amazement at this little person we were entrusted with laying in his daddy's old cradle with brand new bedding made lovingly by grandma.  Eventually, we turned off the light.    .2 seconds later, the previously silent baby began to cry.  He did not stop for seven hours.
Our lives had just been changed forever.

It blows my mind that the little baby in the fleece p.j.'s is now six years old.  My little man is turning into...well, a little man...or at least a legitimate big kid.

This picture is taken just moments after he woke up (I would bet money on the fact that he was just laying in bed waiting for the clock to turn to seven).  Donuts were his birthday breakfast request.  As an extra treat, Mike was on jury duty this week and didn't have to report until 9:30 so he was able to have breakfast with us.
For dinner, he chose Red Robin.  Their free birthday meals are making this a fun family tradition.  He tried to talk me into McDonalds for lunch, but I had to say no to that one.  We didn't need a sick six year old on his big day.

Here he is with cousins and Kiwi sharing the free ice cream sundae at Red Robin. The four of them polished it off in no time.

Mason was hoping to be able to order something off the menu as well.  Hmmm, a Red Robin burger...

When he realized he was stuck with yogurt and leftover mac and cheese that Mom brought from home he was not happy.

Look at that look he is giving Mike.

After Red Robin, we had our families over to our house for cake and ice cream and to open presents.  Modeling his new baseball hat.  Grandma R. commented how much he looked like Mike with the hat on and I have to agree.  He does look like a mini Mike.  I am a lucky girl to be surrounded by such handsomeness.

Below is our six year old at a glance.

Favorite activities:  Playing soccer, playing outside, playing board games, playing hotwheels, building train tracks, playing with his sister, building Legos with Daddy, riding his scooter,  playing Mario Kart, playing any sort of game on the Ipad or Wii that we will let him.

Favorite foods:  Chicken nuggets, tacos, bananas, popsicles, mac and cheese.

Favorite color:  Blue

My favorite things about Little Man:  His love and excitement for life.  Almost everything he does, he loves.  He loves going to primary, he loves going to school, and he loves being on his soccer team.  He gets excited about almost everything we do.  He is also my cohort when it comes to decorating or celebrating an event.  He is full of ideas and is very thoughtful.  When Mason was one month, I mentioned it was his one month birthday and Little Man decorated for it.
He also has a strong desire to do what is right and is definitely a rule follower.

I feel so blessed to be his mommy.  I am grateful for every moment of the last six years and am looking forward to everything the future holds.

Happy Birthday Buddy!

  1. Happy Birthday Carson! I can't believe he is six! What a handsome boy. I love how everyone else looks like the sun is in their eyes but Carson isn't letting anything distract him from the race. I think there is a racing career in his future (hopefully running not cars).

  2. Happy Birthday Carson!! He is such a good boy! Olivia gets so excited when she gets to see him, mainly because, much different than most 6 year old boys, he's so nice to her! It must be all the practice he has playing with Miss Kiwi!!
