Easter Weekend

Saturday morning started with our neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt. They have separate egg hunts for the different age groups. Kiwi was in the 2& under so hers was first. After finding her eggs, she spent the remaining time (while we waited for Little Man's hunt and then watched him) being held by either Mike or I and telling us how cold she was. It was really cold, but despite our red hands and Kiwi's shivers, I think everyone had fun. Last year, Kiwi didn't even know she was supposed to get eggs. The few she got were a result of me (although she was pretty excited when she found out there was candy inside). This year, she knew what was going on and there was no hesitation when she heard the word "go!" She filled up her little bunny basket quickly and promptly wanted the candy inside.
This is Little Man's third year and he's an old pro now. He was one of the oldest in the 3 and 4 year old group and also wasted no time getting his share of eggs.
We have enjoyed this neighborhood tradition and look forward to going for many more years.
The kids woke up Easter morning and found another egg hunt waiting for them, but this time in the warmth of the house. As shown by the picture, they were excited, to say the least. They ran around like crazy yelling at each other for each time they found an egg. They were good little hunters and the Easter Bunny is going to have to find some harder spots next year.

After we found the eggs, we made breakfast and watched General Conference on TV. Twice a year, our church holds a worldwide conference where we have a chance to listen to church leaders. It is always held on the first weekends of April and October. It was neat that it fell on Easter this year and we enjoyed hearing messages love, service, parenting, and of course about our Savior Jesus Christ. It was a wonderful way to remember the real meaning of Easter and I hope that from conference and us telling them the story of and talking about the resurrection yesterday and throughout the week that the kids started to understand that Easter is so much more then eggs and candy. The kids did a pretty good job listening to the morning session and then we let them play upstairs while we listened in the afternoon.
Sunday evening we hosted our first holiday meal. Mike's family (minus his mom who is visiting her mom and siblings in Utah) came over and we had a good time. Luckily everybody helped out by bringing food. We were in charge of the ham, sweet potatoes and salad. It was Mike and I's first time doing a ham, but it turned out to be pretty easy (I didn't realize they come pre cooked and all you have to do is heat it up!) I'm not a ham eater so I didn't have any, but the family seemed to like it. If I were to choose I would have turkey or something else on Easter, but I am not one to mess with tradition and I know how much Mike and his family enjoy ham, and so ham it was (I figure we've been married seven years, it was time to buy the man a ham)
We loved having everyone over and it was fun to do a holiday at our house.
