Easter Egg Hunt

Our neighborhood puts on an annual Easter Egg Hunt each year the Saturday before Easter and it's something our family looks forward to every year.

All the kids before Mason's hunt.

Mason participated in the "Under 3" division.  It's held on the basketball court with all the eggs laid out on the black top for easy picking by little fingers.    Last year, Mason was not really mobile at Easter time, so the extent of his egg hunting experience was a picture of him sitting on the court with a plastic egg.  He wasn't really sure what to do this year, although it wasn't from lack of advice.  Little Man and Kiwi could hardly contain themselves as they very excitedly talked over one another trying to show Mason how to hunt for eggs before it started.  We told them it wouldn't be fair for them to go onto the court with him, although I did end up helping him when it became obvious he may not get any eggs.     He got a couple of eggs and then one cute little girl gave him one because she saw he didn't have many.  He wasn't too impressed with it all and still seemed a little perplexed by the whole thing until he saw that there was Hershey kisses inside of the eggs.  The rest of the morning was spent with him saying "more more" and reaching for eggs from whoever was closest.

The "A-Ha" moment when he realized there was chocolate inside the eggs.

Kiwi was in the age 3 and 4 year old hunt which is up in the field.  All the eggs are still just laid out, but they are spread over a much larger area than the toddler one is.

She didn't need any help or advice this year.  She moved quickly, opting for the bent over run approach as to not have to spend the time to reach all the way down to retrieve an egg.  She ended up with a good sized haul and gave some of her eggs to a more timid little girl who only had one egg in her basket.
Little Man was in the K/1 egg hunt where some of the eggs are actually hidden.  He gathered the couple of eggs right in front of him after starting and then booked it to the woods area where he spent the rest of the hunt.  He definitely scored the most eggs of the three kids, but gave some of his away to a friend from school who he saw crying afterwards.

We couldn't have asked for a better morning weather wise for the event and we all had a great time.  I love that our neighborhood does this and we are already looking forward to next year (almost everytime we pass the park, which is frequently, the kids will talk about the egg hunt)
